Staying focused and not looking ‘back’.

My backstory and cycle of events…

… and all that has led me to this point.

Hiya my name is Chris Elsdon and I’m just about to turn 40!

I know a lot of people do this every year but for me I wasn’t sure if I would make it this far…

… when I was 23 I had just finished my uni degree and I remember it being a warm summer’s day when a doctor sat me down to explain that I had a tumour in my spine.

I don’t remember many of the facts that he went through, apart from the phrase ‘if untreated, it’s going to indefinitely paralyse you and we don’t know how quickly that’s going to happen.’ It’s one of those phrases that I think will stay with me my whole life and I don’t mean in a good way.

Why am I telling you this? To give you context and an understanding about why…

I’m about to ride 900 miles

and how amazing that really is, as the doctors weren’t sure I would ever walk again.

So lets jump back (bad pun) to what led up to that meeting with the doctor and how things weren’t going to very well for me.

Part 2 to follow!
